FAQs
What is bodywork?
I like to distinguish between massage and bodywork. The word massage carries a passive connotation – maybe so much that my client is actually taking a nap during a session or listening to a podcast. Bodywork is more involved and active. I want your participation and feedback throughout the session. This means constant checking in, feeling muscle activation or lack thereof. I prefer to end these sessions with some corrective exercise coaching based on whatever limitations were identified during the session.
How often do you recommend a bodywork session?
The number of sessions depends on your goals. Once a month would be a minimum, maintenance-level program for anyone. But if you have specific goals in mind, then frequency is the key. Twice a month would be a good starting place for us to make progress. Twice a week however, would be optimal. The more time we can spend reprogramming your movement patterns, the more easily your body will “accept” this input.
What is a knot?
Imagine a knot as a traffic jam in your muscle and connective tissue. With normal, healthy soft tissue, the many separate independent fibers that allow us to move will glide together fluidly to facilitate ease of movement. A knot is when these tissues get stuck together, inhibiting ease of movement.
Is tipping necessary?
Tipping is always accepted, never expected. As an independent operator, I set a price that I believe fits my skill set and am not depending on a tip as part of my income.
